| Directions to The Gunnery |
Note: We recommend that you not use online mapping tools (i.e MapQuest, etc.)
The directions given are often inaccurate for the rural areas near Washington, Connecticut.
From Boston, Hartford, and the north:
Take the Massachusetts turnpike to Interstate 84 through Hartford. Stay on I-84
and take exit 17-Middlebury. Exit onto Route 64 going west. Follow Route 64 (making
a right hand turn at the 5th light to stay on 64) until it ends at Route 6. Turn
right onto Route 6 and go through Woodbury. Take a left onto Route
47 (traffic light, drugstore on right) and stay on 47 approximately 9 miles.
Just past the sign for the Mayflower Inn, turn left onto Route 199 and take the
first right onto Kirby Road and right into the campus. The admissions office is
in the large Tudor building straight ahead.
From New York and the south:
Take Interstate 684 north to Interstate 84 east through Danbury. Take Exit
15-Southbury. Turn left at the end of the ramp onto Route 6 east and go through
Southbury and into Woodbury. In Woodbury, turn left onto Route 47 and stay on
it for approximately 9 miles to Washington. Just past the sign for the
Mayflower Inn, turn left onto Route 199 and take the first right onto Kirby
Road and right into the campus. The admissions office is in the large Tudor
building straight ahead.
Alternate Directions:
Same as above through directions from Woodbury on Route 47. Just past the white
Congregational Church in Washington, make a hard left onto Kirby Road. Travel
3/10 of a mile and turn left at the second gate into the campus. The admissions
office is in the large Tudor building straight ahead.
Directions to Bradley Airport:
Follow Route 47 through Washington Depot (right turn) onto Route 202.
Turn right on Route 202. Follow Route 202 through Bantam and
Litchfield. After the Litchfield Green, veer right onto Route 118 at the
big white church. Follow Route 118 for approximately 5 miles to Route
8. Cross over Route 8, turn left at the on-ramp for Route 8 North.
Follow Route 8 North until it ends in Winsted; turn left on Route 44
East. Follow Route 44 East for 3.3 miles to Route 318 East; turn left
(look for signs to Bradley Airport). Follow Route 318 East for 3.2 miles
to Route 219 North (left fork after crossing the reservoir). Follow Route
219 North (watch for right hand turn) until it ends at Route 20 East (6.4
miles). Turn right on Route 20 East. Follow Route 20 (watch for
left turn at after 3.6 mile) into airport. (From where you pick up Route
318 in Winsted there are signs to “Bradley International Airport” at each
turn). Bradley Airport is approximately 1 hour, 20 minutes from The
Gunnery.
