Brennan Leads Gunnery over Avon Old Farms
|
BASEBALL (13-4): Stalwart Patrick Brennan ’08 pitched a complete game, three hit victory with ten strikeouts to lead The Gunnery Highlanders over Avon Old Farms by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, CT. Brennan battled until the bitter end, as Avon put the tying run on third base with only one out in the top of the seventh. A great defensive play by first baseman and league all-star Nik Campero ’09 recorded the second out while holding the runner at third base, and a lazy fly ball to centerfield eventually sealed the Highlander victory. Brennan also contributed with his bat, as a two run single in the bottom of the sixth inning produced the offense necessary for the win. The day belonged to Brennan, the Falmouth, MA native who backboned two New England Championships during his four year career. The captain again provided unmeasured leadership on and off the field for coach Jeff Trundy’s 2008 squad. Head Prefect at the school, Brennan proved to be the model student-athlete during his stay in Washington, CT. On the field, the southpaw completed his senior season with a 4-0 record on the mound, along with timely, clutch hitting at the plate. Brennan leaves The Gunnery baseball program destined for even greater success at the University of Iowa, a top Division I program in the nation.
