The Gunnery's sports program cultivates competition and
cooperation in the context of organized athletics. This is a tradition that
stretches back, unbroken, to Mr. Gunn's era. A staunch advocate of physical
fitness, he created the school's first athletic teams.
Currently, 37 Gunnery teams compete in 14 sports. The Ogden D.
Miller Memorial Athletic Center anchors our program. It encompasses two
full-sized gymnasiums, training facilities, weight-room facilities, a wrestling
room, administrative offices and the school's health center. Just down the hill
from the gym is the Linen Rink, home ice for Highlander hockey. Five miles
distant on Lake Waramaug, the school maintains boathouse facilities for the
crew program.
In addition, The Gunnery has numerous playing fields for
football, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and baseball. For tennis enthusiasts,
there are four clay and four all-weather courts. The Washington Club, two miles
from campus, serves as home to our golf team.
