Dormitories
Students are also educated through their community and dormitory interactions and responsibilities. Accountability, respect, and time management skills are acquired here. The essential considerations are those of personal and collective safety, health, protection of the school and personal property, the mutual compromises of community living, and the provision for a quiet place of study and for sleep. All students will find a Residential Life Handbook in their dormitory rooms. In instances raising questions, the Student Handbook constitutes the overriding authority.

Ten dormitories house between 12 to 48 students each. Students are often mixed with others a year above or below so as to encourage school unity and mentoring relationships. At least two faculty members live in each dorm with some dorms containing apartments for as many as four faculty families. The relatively small size of the dorms and close supervision of the resident faculty member(s) make each dorm a family unto itself. Each dorm is also assigned two or more Residential Advisors; student dorm monitors that also help develop and support the running of each dorm. It is not uncommon to see several students watching television in a faculty apartment on a weekend. The closeness of the community is what The Gunnery is all about.

Below is a description of each of our dormitories. For a larger view of each image, click on the thumbnail photo to the left.
