Dress Code 2008-2009
It is in the spirit and the tradition of the school that we ask all students to dress according to the following guidelines. Please understand that we expect all clothes to be properly fitting, clean, and ironed. Shirts must be tucked in during the academic day.

At boarding school, distinctions between types of clothing help to define the number of roles the student transitions through during the school day: scholar, athlete, teenager, etc.

Students are expected to have and maintain clothes that are pressed and/or ironed and appropriate for the following situations and activities. Baseball caps are not permitted during the academic day and not permitted to be worn inside buildings. No SNEAKERS, VANS or SLIPPERS are to be worn during the academic day.

Smart Casual Dress: This includes pants, polo shirt, or button down shirt for a boy; slacks or skirt, polo shirt, or button down shirt for a girl. No jeans are permitted. No jacket or tie is required. This dress is normally for off-campus events not requiring class dress and is at the prerogative of the chaperoning faculty member.

Leisure Dress: While there is latitude in this category, students will be asked to change from attire with inappropriate slogans or attire that is sexually provocative.

Leisure dress may be worn after the academic and athletic day. Disregard for a dress specification constitutes a one (1) point/demerit offense per item; the student may be excused to change, and may be required to report back to the faculty member who requested the student to change at the next opportune time. Continued disregard will be referred to the Dean of Students who will determine further appropriate disciplinary response.

Ordering Info
The Gunnery patch, class belts for girls and class ties for boys are available at the School Store and can be purchased once students arrive on campus. The remaining clothing items (blazers, khaki pants and skirts, oxford shirts and sweaters, etc.) can be purchased at any store. Land’s End, J Crew and LL Bean all have a large selection of these items for sale, both in their stores and online, but again families should feel free to shop anywhere that is convenient for them.

Girls are required to purchase a Gunnery Plaid Skirt from Land’s End in the School Uniform section). Item numbers are as follows: Girls Regular 05378-62T7, Girls Slim 05561-42T3, Girls Plus 05546-52T0, Women 25021-32T7. The color is Hunter/Classic Navy plaid. Our Preferred School Number is 9000-8987-1. The skirt should be ordered well ahead of time so that you can wear it for Convocation, which takes place on the first Sunday of the school year. We recommend that new international girls have the skirt shipped to campus rather than home to make sure that it arrives on time.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Lauraine Paquin in the Dean of Students office at paquinl@gunnery.org or 860-868-7334 ext. 280.
