| 2008-2009 Financial Aid Policy |
The Gunnery awards financial aid grants on the basis of need.
Financial aid applications are processed for The Gunnery by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid in Princeton, New Jersey. SSS provides schools with an analysis of your family's finances and suggests what your contribution should be toward educational expenses. We subscribe to the principles of SSS, and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, or gender.
Parents’ Financial Statements (PFS) are available from the Office of Financial Aid at The Gunnery after November 1. Please call if you would like one mailed to you, however, we encourage you to consider completing the PFS online by going to www.nais.org/financialaid/sss.
Applications for financial aid must be completed by both new and returning families every year. All awards are reviewed annually to insure that high standards of scholarship and citizenship are maintained.
Financial aid applications for new families should be mailed to Princeton no later than February 10, 2008. If this deadline is met, new families are likely to be notified as to whether or not they will receive financial aid for 2008-2009 at the time of acceptance.
Please complete the following by February 10, 2008:
- Complete the Parents’ Financial Statement and mail it to SSS in Princeton, or complete it online at www.nais.org/financialaid/sss.
Be sure to indicate The Gunnery's school code (3628) in the appropriate blank on the PFS, and to request your own “Family Report.”
Make sure that you use item #32 to fully explain any circled or underlined items on the PFS. It is important that we have a clear understanding of your financial situation in order to properly assess your need.
In cases of divorce, each parent is required to complete a PFS, as we consider an independent school education to require the active financial support of both biological parents.
SSS has a "helpline" at 609-771-7770, should you have questions as you complete the paperwork.
- Mail a photocopy of both parents’ signed 2007 Federal Tax Return, including 1040’s, W-2’s, 1099’s, and all supporting schedules to The Gunnery Admissions Office. (If your 2007 return is not yet available, please provide us with your 2006 return initially, though any financial aid award will be contingent upon our receipt and review of your 2007 Federal Tax Return by April 15.) If you file for an extension from the IRS, please provide proof of this in lieu of your Federal Tax Return. We pledge to treat these private documents with discretion.
- Mail a copy of the PFS to The Gunnery.
We recognize that preparing both IRS and SSS documents by February 10 is challenging. Our financial aid budget is limited, however, and those who meet the deadline have a distinct advantage. Your timely application means we can give your daughter or son the consideration she or he deserves.
Please feel free to direct any questions to Laura E. Martin, Director of Financial Aid, at 860-868-7896, or martinl@gunnery.org.
