Post Graduate Program Overview
Gunnery offers a comprehensive Post Graduate program allowing students to immerse themselves in our community, while also receiving individual attention through a PG Advisor, Academic Advisor, and College Advisor (specifically for Post Graduates). We expect our Post Graduates to serve as role models through their character and willingness to embrace The Gunnery experience. The school, in turn, works diligently to create a meaningful relationship with these students during their short stay.
This connection often begins taking shape well before Registration Day in September, as we strongly encourage enrolled families to return to campus during the summer prior to enrollment for meetings with the College and Academic Offices. Summer meetings allow incoming Post Graduates to both familiarize themselves with administrators and get a head start with the academic and college process. We also communicate regularly throughout the summer to create a sense of comfort for the incoming PG, as well as to reiterate expectations for the coming year. Our PG Advisor meets with each student individually during the opening week of school, where we begin to set goals for the year. The meetings continue throughout the first month, as we dissect every goal and create a formal plan on how to accomplish each. More importantly, our entire faculty monitors each student’s progress towards accomplishing these objectives. We also formally begin the college process during the first week of school with Rod Theobald, College Counselor specific to Post Graduates. Mr. Theobald and the college office meet with each student numerous times throughout the fall, while also setting aside time for the “College Club” to meet once a week and focus on completing applications. We track the growth and progress of each Post Graduate from a healthy distance throughout the year, allowing them to grow and mature on their own. Although The Gunnery holds very high expectations of character and participation for Post Graduates, we hope that each student realizes our commitment towards assuring a rewarding and successful experience. Academics

We mandate that all Post Graduates schedule a minimum of four academic courses each trimester, but we often encourage them to take five. A Post Graduate’s schedule depends on the following factors: placement tests, previous credits earned toward a Gunnery diploma, standardized test scores, and the student’s interests. A Post Graduate often tailors his/her own schedule with elective courses and Advanced Placement courses. Again, we strongly encourage enrolled PG’s (and their families) to return to campus in the summer for a face-to-face meeting with our Academic Dean.

Admissions

The admissions process does not change for Post Graduates regarding deadlines and paperwork needed for a completed application. We typically receive over 60 applications for 12-14 positions each year. Our Admissions Committee focuses on academic record, extracurricular impact, and character when making decisions. Leadership ability, citizenship, and character play a vital role in the acceptance of Post Graduate candidates.

Financial Aid

The Gunnery provides need based financial aid for those families who qualify through the School and Student Service in Princeton, NJ.
