A postgraduate (PG) year is designed for high school graduates who are looking for a college preparatory experience before heading off to college. Reasons to consider a PG year vary. Many students find this opportunity helps them to mature socially, improve study skills, enhance time management skills or simply experience living away from home. Additional considerations may involve strengthening one’s athletic ability in order to pursue collegiate athletics or to demonstrate academic growth and improved test scores after going through the college application process as a high school senior.
A PG must take five courses per academic term. Course selection is designed to enrich the student’s academic experience and match his or her interests, while simultaneously aligning with the recommendations of an assigned college counselor.
