Founded in 1997 by Litchfield Performing Arts, the Litchfield Jazz Camp is a charitable organization dedicated to changing lives through music. Serving 70-150 residential and day students, the camp accepts all students age 12 years and older, from beginners to advanced musicians. Students are taught in skill-based combos and participate in jazz and theory/composition workshops, master classes, jam sessions, evening activities and concerts. Electives include introductory piano and drums classes, R&B Ensemble, Listening to Jazz, Big Band, Latin Jazz Ensemble and a college prep class led by Doug Munro, a professor of music and founder of the jazz program at SUNY Purchase.
Students can enroll for one or more sessions, which will be offered, June 30 – July 5, July 7 – 12, July 14 – 19, and July 21 – 26. Campers will have the opportunity to attend and perform at the annual Litchfield Jazz Festival, which will be held July 26-28, 2019.
