Jared Rainville ’19 Earns Lacrosse All-American Honor
Jared Rainville ’19 has been named U.S. Lacrosse All-American for the 2019 season. The senior attackman from Watertown, Connecticut, who will attend and play Division III lacrosse at Connecticut College in the fall, was a three-year starter and captain his junior and senior years. He was named First Team in the Western New England Secondary School Lacrosse Association (WNESSLA) in 2018 and 2017. During his career, he led the team in scoring his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons and has totaled 151 goals and 61 assists for a total of 211 points. His efforts helped the Highlanders to a 13-5 record. He scored his 200th point in a game against Pomfret on May 4. The Highlanders won 10-4.
Head Coach Mike Marich, said: “We couldn’t have asked for a better person and player to coach over the past four years. There is no one more deserving of this honor. Jared was always working to get better. In and out of season you could always find Jared with a stick in his hand honing his craft.”
“Jared is a role model for all the players in our program,” Marich said. “He has accumulated some impressive stats over the last four years, but more impressively, he is a person of character who, no matter the situation, gives his best. In the classroom, he has consistently received honors, and this year he was elected Prefect by his classmates and teachers. Needless to say, he is an outstanding young man and player.”
Added Rainville: “My family, all my team members and coaches helped me along the way. Without my teammates and friends, it would be nothing.”
Boys varsity lacrosse players Julian Aviles ’19, Garrett Argentino ’20, Henry Hoyt ’20, Matt Lee ’19 and Patrick Thomas ’20 garnered 2019 First Team All-League (WNESSLA) recognition, while William Alling Graney ’19, Nikolas Ioannou ’19, James Rayhill ’20, Edward Rayhill ’22, Hunter Sansbury ’20 and Cody Sipher ’19 earned All-League Honorable Mentions.
Founded in 1850 by abolitionist, educator, and outdoorsman Frederick Gunn, The Gunnery is a coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school for students in grades 9 through 12/post-graduate. Dedicated teacher-mentor-coaches challenge students to reach their full potential in a home-like setting where character and citizenship are valued as much as intellect and achievement. Individualized attention and high expectations help young learners develop not only the skills and confidence they will need in college, but also the moral compass and love of learning that will serve them well in life. The school attracts ambitious, academically curious students who will both shine as unique individuals and thrive as contributing members of a deeply connected community. By the time they graduate, Gunnery students have become well rounded, grounded young adults with a sharpened sense of who they are and who they want to become.
