Alumni
Welcome back to The Gunnery! It is my pleasure, as President of The Alumni Association, to help you navigate the many ways alumni can keep in touch and stay informed.
This year, we are proud to honor Frederick Gunn on what would be his 200th birthday. It's exciting and affirming to pay tribute to our founder in ways that are fitting to his life and legacy.

As alumni, we can reflect upon our time at The Gunnery and recognize that our school still embraces Mr. Gunn's dream of "an ideal school," even now, more than 150 years later. We recall our School Walk that took us to that amazing classroom called Steep Rock. We remember our time in the Meetinghouse, on the athletic fields, on the stage and around the quad.

Today, Mr. Gunn's legacy lives on in many extraordinary ways, through our students, who:
  • build character through leadership positions like Prefect, Resident Advisor, and Head Tour Guide;
  • demonstrate, as Gunn Scholars, their conviction and dedication by spending an entire school year exploring the school's history;
  • show us their courage, whether performing in the classroom, on the ice, or on stage like Gabby Lescadre '18 - winner of a Halo Award for best standout performance in an ensemble play or, like recent graduate Justin Dunn '13, pitching phenom, who was drafted #1 by the N.Y. Mets.
The Gunnery today is Mr. Gunn's ideal school. And it remains our ideal school. You can help keep his vision alive and thriving by joining me in supporting The Gunnery Fund. Our goal this year is to reach 1816 gifts, marking the year Mr. Gunn was born. I hope your gift will be one of them!

Founded in 1850 by abolitionist, educator, and outdoorsman Frederick Gunn, The Gunnery is a coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school for students in grades 9 through 12/post-graduate. Dedicated teacher-mentor-coaches challenge students to reach their full potential in a home-like setting where character and citizenship are valued as much as intellect and achievement. Individualized attention and high expectations help young learners develop not only the skills and confidence they will need in college, but also the moral compass and love of learning that will serve them well in life. The school attracts ambitious, academically curious students who will both shine as unique individuals and thrive as contributing members of a deeply connected community. By the time they graduate, Gunnery students have become well rounded, grounded young adults with a sharpened sense of who they are and who they want to become.
