Campus Life
Are you a musician, a singer, an actor, a dancer? Have you always wanted to try out for a show, but never had the nerve? The Gunnery has a wide range of opportunities for all students, from beginners to skilled performers, to participate, learn and grow.

Performing Arts

We have a Chamber Ensemble, a Jazz Band and a Rock Band. The Gunnery Troubadours is our vocal performance group - they meet as a class and perform regularly throughout the year in town and on campus. Check out all their talents at the Holiday Concert and the Spring Concert from this year.

The Gunnery Drama Society presents two productions a year - a play in the fall and a musical in the winter. You can act, sing, dance, build sets, do lighting and sound, work on costumes, help manage the production - all students are welcome to try out. Rehearsals are held in the afternoons as part of our co-curricular program. Recent shows include Our Town and Bye, Bye Birdie!

Our private lesson program - both instrumental and voice - allows students to pursue technical and performance skills in a one-on-one setting. Solo concerts each term allow students to share what they’ve learned. We also offer private dance instruction to interested students. Beginners are welcome!

Founded in 1850 by abolitionist, educator, and outdoorsman Frederick Gunn, The Gunnery is a coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school for students in grades 9 through 12/post-graduate. Dedicated teacher-mentor-coaches challenge students to reach their full potential in a home-like setting where character and citizenship are valued as much as intellect and achievement. Individualized attention and high expectations help young learners develop not only the skills and confidence they will need in college, but also the moral compass and love of learning that will serve them well in life. The school attracts ambitious, academically curious students who will both shine as unique individuals and thrive as contributing members of a deeply connected community. By the time they graduate, Gunnery students have become well rounded, grounded young adults with a sharpened sense of who they are and who they want to become.
