    2017 - 2018

    Welcome to the Gunnery Field Hockey program! The Gunnery is a member of the Western New England Prep School Field Hockey Association. Within WNEPSFHA, The Gunnery is classified in the “C” Division, and currently has a varsity and junior varsity squad. Both the varsity and the junior varsity teams play competitive schedules with opponents including: The Canterbury School, Kent School, Millbrook School, Berkshire School, Hamden Hall, Ethel Walker’s School, Suffield Academy, and Westover School, among others. In recent years, The Gunnery Varsity squad has enjoyed much success; capturing the Class C New England Championship in 2012 and finishing in 2nd place in 2013. Our recent graduates are currently competing at Skidmore, Connecticut College, and Williams.

Founded in 1850 by abolitionist, educator, and outdoorsman Frederick Gunn, The Gunnery is a coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school for students in grades 9 through 12/post-graduate. Dedicated teacher-mentor-coaches challenge students to reach their full potential in a home-like setting where character and citizenship are valued as much as intellect and achievement. Individualized attention and high expectations help young learners develop not only the skills and confidence they will need in college, but also the moral compass and love of learning that will serve them well in life.
